Optical testing

Microsharp's materials and optical testing capabilities

In the course of the development and testing of optical film materials, Microsharp has put in place a wide range of physical properties and optical testing capabilities.

Testing is performed before and after controlled environmental exposure and includes:

  • Establishing the robustness of the materials to prolonged exposure to UV radiation
  • Establishing robustness to humidity
  • Establishing robustness to extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • Testing transmittance, haze, clarity and polarisation maintenance
  • Testing colour distribution characteristics (C.I.E. L*a*b* - values)
  • This class of tests, which are usually not given much priority in non-industrial research, is essential if the new materials are to be adopted commercially and can be provided to all Microsharp's clients.

Optical characterisation capabilities

Microsharp can determine the angular and spectral sensitivity of an optoelectronic material to incident light using our goniophotometer. High resolution surface optical microscopy can be performed using our Zygo white light interferometer and Olympus microscope.

Microsharp can determine the angular distribution of light emitted by a device using our dedicated viewing angle characterisation apparatus, similar to that pictured opposite.
