Microsharp led a Carbon Trust funded research and development project to develop ultra low cost solar concentrator technology.

By using lightweight film Fresnel lens structures rather than parabolic mirrors or cast lenses, concentrators can be made lighter and cheaper. This will open up the possibility of developing systems that will be economically viable in much smaller unit sizes.

Both linear and radial lens solutions were developed for use in CPV and low temperature CSP applications.

A novel 'Truncated Cone' Lens was also developed and patented. Introducing a slope angle to lens structure provides a number of advantages that increase lens efficiency.
