Backlight Light Redirection

Prismatic materials play an important role in many backlight designs, serving to correct the direction of light from a side light through a display. By using both vertical and horizontal prismatic films, light from the backlight can be collimated into a narrow range of directions, thereby significantly enhancing display brightness. Appropriately selected diffuser films then restore the correct viewing angle.

Prismatic structures used to re-cycle and collimate the output of backlights.

Autostereoscopic Displays

Transparent lenticular film material is used in auto-stereoscopic imagery - the production of images with a different appearance when viewed from different directions. The results are achieved by printing strips of alternating imagery under the lenticular film which projects the different strips in different directions. Therefore, each eye is able to see a different image, and the images seen change as the viewing direction changes.

Redirection of Surface Glare

Prismatic film reflects glare away from principle viewing angle by shifting the specular reflection spot significantly away from the viewing direction.
